Prof. Perugini has built her career at the crossroads of pharmaceutical technology, cosmetic science, and innovation transfer, fields she has explored with scientific rigor and a strong sense of purpose. After completing degrees in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and in Pharmacy, followed by a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a specialization in Industrial Pharmacy, she embarked on an academic path that soon led her to become Associate Professor at the Department of Drug Sciences.
For more than twenty five years, her research has focused on how technologies can enhance the efficacy, safety, and sustainability of cosmetic and topical pharmaceutical products. She has developed recognized expertise in instrumental evaluation of cosmetic performance, contributing to the field with two patented devices for the assessment of nails and hair. Her scientific interests span modified release systems, advanced formulation strategies, and the development of sustainable cosmetic prototypes, anticipating the sector’s evolving needs.
A defining aspect of her career is her commitment to technology transfer. She is the founder and Scientific Director of an academic spin off that has become, in recent years, a reference point for companies across the cosmetic supply chain. The spin off provides high level services for industry, particularly in the design of efficacy and safety tests for cosmetic products and ingredients, strengthening the bridge between academic research and industrial innovation.
Teaching remains a central pillar of her work. She lectures in Pharmaceutical Technology, Cosmetology, and Cosmetic Formulation, coordinates the Master in Cosmetic Sciences, and leads the international Skin Summer School, an annual event she established in 2012 to foster dialogue on dermatological and cosmetic innovation.
With more than 180 scientific contributions, numerous national and international collaborations, and a leading role in the PNRR NODES programme, Prof. Perugini continues to shape the future of cosmetic science through research, mentorship, and a strong commitment to innovation within the academic and industrial communities.
